Lone Cypress

This is a famous landmark in Monterey called the "Lone Cypress" because of its isolated location on the top of a tall cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

I used pyrography to create the intricate drawing and shading. I used gourd dyes to give the tree its color and the cliffs their time worn stains. I topped it off with a tumbled semi-precious stone.

 African Elephant Mama & Baby

The Elephants on this gourd were burned into the surface using pyrography which means "fire writing".

The colors come from translucent gourd dyes that allow the natural markings of the gourd skin and the pyrography show through.
