Welcome!

This image of african elephants on a hard shelled gourd was created using pyrography (aka, fire writing) and natural dyes and inks.

As an artist intrigued by the natural world, it is fitting to use organic, sustainable and non-toxic elements in my creative expressions. By using organically, California grown gourds, driftwood collected along the shore line, pebbles smoothed by flowing water and other nature given elements, art becomes a celebration of the natural world all aroud us.

The Gourd Art you see on this site was created by me, Heather Cozette and is all one of a kind, Original Art.  I create fine detailed drawings using pyrography which means "fire writing". pyrography is drawing or writing with an electrically heated stylus commonly known as a wood burning tool.

To obtain the wonderful colors on my pieces I use gourd dyes which are specifically designed for gourds and is translucent allowing the natural markings of the gourds to show through, enhancing the organic look of the piece.

The natural materials I use in my artwork like hard shelled gourds, water smoothed stones and driftwood collected along the shore, lend their organic shapes and textures to my pieces. I am constantly inspired by the natural world and use the plants, animals, landscapes and waterways I see to further enhance my art.

I care deeply about the planet we live on and am committed to not only appreciating it but caring for it. My artwork is created on organically grown gourds  or natural ocean driftwood using a wood burning tool, non-toxic dyes and inks and sealed with a no VOC coating.
